The default security settings on your Deluxe account were designed for online retailers but aren't appropriate for fundraising events with a high volume of transactions in a single evening. . . These instructions include our recommendations and show you how to adjust the security settings on your account.
Login to Your Deluxe Payments Account
Login at: https://payments.deluxe.com/gateway/login If you are unable to login, contact the account owner and ask them to add you to the account using these instructions (step 1).
Go to: Settings > General Settings
Adjusting or Disabling Fraud Tumbling
Go to: Settings > General Settings > Fraud Tools
Fraud Tumbling Settings are designed to prevent criminals from testing stolen credit cards on your event site and other nefarious schemes. When the number of attempted transactions (successful or failed) exceed the limit for the time period, future attempts are failed with the error message [fraud name tumbling] or [fraud card tumbling].
If you ask/allow your supporters to "pay-as-they-go" at your event - you MUST adjust or disable these setting for the duration.
We recommend that EVERYONE edit or disable these settings for periods where many online payments are anticipated - as it surprisingly common for buyers to ignore failure messaging, submit the same payment form three or more times before correcting the issue or trying another card.
Adjusting or Disabling AVS Settings
Go to: Settings > General Settings > Other Settings
In order to verify the Address/Zip code match the cardholders billing address, the transaction must first be authorized (which provides access to the cardholder account). This authorization shows up on the cardholder's statement as a "Pending" transaction. If the AVS requirements are not met - the transaction is immediately voided by Deluxe - but the Pending status may remain on the cardholders statement until the next day (or even longer - depending on the specific card issuer).
We recommend disabling AVS:
- People have a surprisingly hard time entering their address details EXACTLY as they appear on their billing statement - and can get very frustrated (especially at events generous with the wine).
- Each attempt triggers a (temporary) pending charge on their billing statement (and many people get realtime notifications of card transactions)
- You'll pay the .30 transaction fee on each attempt.
