Because unwanted text messages are more intrusive than unwanted emails, SMS service providers have stringent policies in place to prevent abuse of automated and bulk send privileges.
To comply with our service provider's "best practices" for sending bulk SMS/text messages (and because some recipients may incur charges from their mobile carrier), Users must Opt In before receiving SMS/Text messages.
There are three tools for collecting Opt in authorizations:
During Registration:
When the Text Notifications setting is enabled on your site, your supporters will be asked to provide their phone number and to Opt In or Out on any of the registration forms:
- Signup form
- Online Ticket Buyer form
- Welcome screen (landing page from Invitations to Bid, Vote, Virtual)
Text Notifications are enabled by default on event sites to allow supporters to provide their phone number and opt in when they buy tickets or signup to bid. If you disable Text notifications, the Opt In/Out options will not be displayed on the pages above or My Account page.
You can verify/update your settings at: Site Settings > Customize Your Site > Email/Text Messaging > Standard SMS Settings/Templates .
By Emailing an Invitation to Enable Text Notifications:
The Auction Night > Online/Voting Tasks > Send Invitations screen displays the opt in/out status of each guest/bidder.
To ask multiple users to opt in, use the SMS Permissions filter above to select "No Choice Made", then email an Invitation to enable text messages.
By Texting an Individual Invitation to Bid:
Users who have either Opted Out or not responded will be excluded from all bulk texts, but can still receive invites to bid via individual text.
When individual invites are texted to users who have not already opted in, an additional pop-up window will display to ask you to confirm that the user wants their Opt In status updated to allow future texts.
To send/update: Go to Auction Night > Online/Voting Tasks > Send Invites
