The option to embed livestream video from YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Vimeo Live, or Twitch is intended for large-scale (1000 or more viewers) virtual events and must be enabled by the Support Team. Note: it is your responsibility to confirm that your account on these platforms are eligible for livestreaming (with or without advertisements).
Videos embedded using YouTube Live, Facebook Live, Vimeo Live, or Twitch will display with the source's latency (generally 10-60 seconds).
To Setup your Livestream Feed:
Go to: Auction Night > Virtual Control Panel > Setup Video
Select the desired Streaming Service from the dropdown:
Follow Instructions provided for the selected streaming service:
Youtube, Facebook, Vimeo, Twitch:
To broadcast from one of these public livestream platforms, you'll need to route their livestream to your Virtual Live Auction video player via credentials provided by originating platform.
Make sure you are using the platform's livestream option (rather than regular video recording option). The embed codes often look similar (and will work in the player) but operate differently. Livestreams are showing the same live content to all viewers at the same time. Videos will start playing when the viewer arrives on the page - and viewers can pause, restart and skip around using the player controls.
Examples are provided on the setup screen to illustrate what each platform's credentials look like and where they can be found. Youtube shown here as an example. . .
YouTube Live requires you to sign up for AdSense in order to embed livestream videos from their platform on your site. AdSense sign up takes 24-48 hours and requires you to meet certain follower and viewing thresholds in order to qualify. Google may allow ads to play during your embedded YouTube livestream.
Avoid the inclination to broadcast your feed in high definition. High definition settings add significant latency in exchange for little gain in image quality.
Use these specifications to ensure a broadcast with a good balance between image quality and reliable streaming:
- 720 p
- 20 frames/second
- bandwidth = 1.25 - 1.5 megabits/second
Previewing Your Livestream
Regardless of the source of your video feed, it will initially display in Preview Mode on the Control Panel (only). Hover your cursor on the feed to access controls to enlarge the screen. When you're ready to make it visible to your supporters, move the slider from Preview to Live.
