Smartphone bidding requires an Acorn, Plus, or Professional plan.
You can add a Silent Auction with Mobile (smartphone) Bidding to your golf event. Instead of placing bids on paper, your supporters bid on their smartphones on a well-curated selection of silent items.
Tips for a gala with mobile bidding may apply. For a golf event with a silent mobile bidding auction, additional considerations apply:
Tips and Best Practices
Assess the connectivity at your venue well in advance of your event to make sure mobile bidding is a viable option.
Bigger is not necessarily better. A good rule of thumb is one silent auction item for every 2-3 bidders (really!) If many of your past auction items have 0-2 bids and/or sold for less than 50% of FMV, you probably had too many silent items.
Consider the following when setting up bidding group open and closing times:
- If your event does not include a post-tournament banquet, open items prior to the start of your tournament, so that golfers have time to browse and start bidding before they turn their focus to playing.
- If you’re holding a post-tournament banquet, close items during the banquet. Depending on the number of items you have, you may want to set up multiple bidding groups with staggered closing times, separated by 15-minute intervals, so that bidders who lose out on items in the first round can shift their bidding to items that haven’t yet closed.
- If you won’t be holding a post-tournament banquet, consider setting your closing time for slightly after the time you expect your final foursomes to complete their rounds. This allows time for all of your golfers to place final bids.
Enable extended bidding to collect all possible last minute bids.
If your event will not include a banquet, you’ll be better served using Max (eBay-style) bidding, so that the software can bid for your golfers while they play. If you will be holding a banquet, choosing Quick bids allows for bidding frenzies at your evening event.
If you’re holding a banquet, be sure to set up a Banquet Only (non-golfer) ticket type.
Invite your golfers and banquet-only guests to bid as soon as your items open.
Add an online paddle raise/cash donation item to your catalog to allow for direct donations to your organization.
Disable text outbid notifications so that golfers are not disturbed by them during play. You can re-enable them just before your banquet, if applicable.
Disable winning bid email notifications. Instead, at the close of your auction, send your winners an invitation to self checkout.
Establish a will call plan to distribute items to their winners.
